SUMMARY:Verge del Carme — Boat Processions Across Mallorca
DESCRIPTION:Every 16 July\, Mallorca’s fishing communities honour the Virgin of Carmen patron saint of sailors with one of the island’s most visually stunning traditions. Dozens of boats adorned with flowers\, flags and banners set sail in convoy from harbours across the island\, carrying a statue of the Virgin out to sea. Flowers are cast onto the water in memory of those lost at sea. Then the celebrations begin. \nBest locations: Port de Pollenca (large flotilla\, sea blessing\, fireworks)\, Port de Soller (electricity cut around the bay\, boats lit by flares. extraordinary)\, Cala Figuera (intimate and deeply authentic)\, Port Andratx (multi-day programme with live music and fireworks). Mass at around 8pm\, procession follows. Free everywhere.

SUMMARY:Changing of the Guard at Almudaina Palace
DESCRIPTION:A spectacular free ceremony in front of the Almudaina Royal Palace in Palma. Twenty soldiers of the Light Infantry Regiment dressed in period uniforms from 1808 march to the sound of drums and a lone piper\, recreating the historic changing of the palace guard. The parade forms an honour guard\, there is a review of arms and then the formal change of sentries takes place. Arrive early to secure a good position. Lasts approximately 30 minutes.
