One of the most extraordinary free events in the Mediterranean and it happens right here in Mallorca. Every 2 August, the entire town of Pollenca spills into the streets to re-enact the night of 30 May 1550, when local hero Joan Mas woke the town and led 300 brave Pollensins to defeat 1,500 Ottoman pirates led by the feared corsair Dragut.

The week builds with concerts, exhibitions, markets, cannon fire, fireworks and late-night parties. On the day itself, the whole town dresses up, Christians in white pyjamas, Moors in colourful pirate attire and the mock battle tears through the narrow streets. Wooden swords, face paint, fireworks and several thousand people pressed into cobblestone streets cheering. It ends with the victorious Christians singing the town anthem at the parish church. Epic in every sense.
